Shanti Dave

Ahmedabad, India

Shanti was born in 1931 in Ahmedabad. He started his career as a bill board painter in his home town and later joined the Faculty of Fine Arts at Baroda to complete his Post Diploma in Painting in 1957. Shanti’s techniques involve hot wax painting or wax mixed with oil paints, usually combining them with the art of calligraphy. His murals are often large in nature and besides the traditional form of painting, he also incorporates wood block painting, stone carving and weaving. Painting different sizes, he has frequently used “Om,” “Sri” and Tantric signs to enrich his work. Shanti has been a part of numerous solo exhibitions all over the world and was also awarded the Padma Shri in 1985.
