Description
About the artist:
Born in Delhi, Nehmat Mongia is a multidisciplinary artist who experiments with diverse materials and concepts to express her thoughts and imagination. A graduate of the College of Art, Delhi, she completed her Master’s degree at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. Based in Delhi, her practice reflects a deep engagement with materiality, narrative, and contemporary concerns.
Nehmat’s work is characterized by the amalgamation of glossy, delicate ceramics with other materials such as glass, allowing her to explore layered expressions unique to both human and animal forms. This interplay of materials enables her to articulate emotional states shaped by struggles with the external world as well as inner psychological landscapes. Her practice demonstrates a deft handling of multiple media, often infused with subtle humour and visual wit.
Central to her work is an exploration of humanity’s fractured relationship with nature. Through upcycling and material reuse, Nehmat constructs imaginative, sometimes disorienting worlds that mirror ecological imbalance and social unease. These narratives invite viewers to reimagine possible futures, transforming the act of making into a speculative exercise in renewal and coexistence.
