About the artist

Kalal Laxma Goud is a master draughtsman with a versatility over a range of mediums, from printmaking, drawing, watercolour, gouache and pastels to glass painting and sculptures in bronze and terracotta. Goud’s artworks are rustic, raw, and potent. Goud displays versatility over a range of mediums, from printmaking, drawing, watercolour, gouache and pastels to glass painting and sculpture in bronze and terracotta. Goud’s work is dramatic; his protagonists are raw and vivacious in their appeal, imbibed with energy that reverberates through his strokes and textures. Most of Goud’s art is centered on the rural, recreating landscapes from his childhood as if they were frozen in time.

Laxma Goud was born (1940) in Nizampur, Andhra Pradesh. He completed his Diploma in Drawing and Painting from the Government School of Art and Architecture, Hyderabad (1963). Goud later studied Mural Painting and Printmaking under K.G. Subramanyan at the Faculty of Fine Arts at M.S. University, Baroda (1963-65).

Goud has held several solo shows and has participated in group shows in India and abroad. The Government of India honoured him with Padma Shri in 2016. Goud is the Head of the Sarojini Naidu School of Performing Arts, Fine Art & Communication, University of Hyderabad.

The artist lives and works in Hyderabad, Telengana.
