About the artist:

Vivan Sundaram is one of Indian’s most prolific artists He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Baroda and the Slade School of Fine Arts in London in the 1970’s on a commonwealth scholarship. Sundaram is an artist who has been consistent in his pursuit of politically honed. Sundaram works in different media, including painting, sculpture, photography, installation and video art, which deal with the personal, autobiographical, social and political. His works in the 1980s showed a tendency towards figurative representations, and dealt with problems of identity. His works engage with questions of memory and history. The digital works create new narratives from old family album photographs and quiz how we perceive fabricated landscapes. His work with activism during his student years later manifested into his work with Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust (Sahmat), of which he is a founder member and trustee.
