About the artist:
Rohit Suresh Varekar (b. 1999, Sawantwadi, Maharashtra) is a contemporary artist whose practice emerges from the material and ecological landscapes of the Konkan region. Born in the village of Otawane in Sindhudurg district, Varekar works primarily with reclaimed architectural fragments, carved wood, drawing, wax, and assemblage to explore themes of memory, vernacular architecture, environmental transformation, and cultural continuity. Deeply informed by the lived realities of the Konkan landscape — its monsoon ecology, disappearing mud houses, oral traditions, and changing rural environments — his works transform salvaged materials into repositories of personal and collective memory. Varekar continues to live in his family home in Sawantwadi.
