Description

About the artist

Nantu Behari Das was born in 1977 in West Bengal. He completed his BVA in sculpture in 2004 and MVA in sculpture in 2006 from Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan. Nantu has developed his own unique style of work. The creations seem to grow out of his confrontation with life and reality around him. He juxtaposes the thought of tenderness with a medium as hard as metal, to create the perfect illusion. His works are mostly figurative and expressionist in character and compel viewers to reach out and feel them. He expresses by embracing opposites – the tension between humans and nature, the perils of balancing biology and technology, the combination of ancient forms with modern techniques. His organic sculptures are mostly made out of fiberglass, nails and screws. With many group participations and a few solo exhibitions, Nantu has created a niche for himself. Works are in the collection of many major collections within India and overseas.
