Description

About the artist

Kapil Jangid is the son of a migrated family from Rajasthan who grew up in the industrial area of Bajwa near Baroda City, Gujarat. His work is always inspired by architects, designers, construction techniques, daily lives, movies, craftsmen and fictional ideas and fantasies. His imagination about the architectural structures that he makes with found objects, his skill in model making and how he manipulates the materials in his models. His works mostly deal with the idea of sustainability, dreams of architecture, urban anthropology, and Incremental architecture, he addresses the issues of urbanisation, and he looks at the expansion of cities with a critical eye; recording the loss of the human spirit. His imagination is about architecture and his utopian dreams. He is keen to understand interventions in urban spaces and its technicalities that are sourced from his father’s background as a carpenter.

Kapil Jangid lives and works in India. He completed his Master’s in Visual Arts degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, and has done her Bachelor’s Degree from the same institution. Selected exhibitions include: Embark Group show at Ark Foundation for the Arts in Baroda (2023); Fundraiser group show at Bahuarwa Foundation (NGO) in the College of fine arts Chitra Parishath, Bangalore (2023) and The Elephant in the Room: neutral infrastructure/s of ‘signalling’ in the arts, a joint publication by Conflictorium – Museum of Conflict, India and stroom Den Haag, Netherlands (2022).
