About the artist
Rat Bedlington’s practice is broad and adaptive, embodied as an ever evolving, cumulative process. They load their paintings and sculptures with lush materials and imagery, often using sexually charged source material, fused with references spanning swathes of art history and theory in order to tackle broad themes of identity and being. They primarily with painting, incorporated into larger sculptural installations. However, they have exhibited consistently to experiment, and expanded their practice materially to include sculpture, textiles, performance and video.
Rat Bedlington is a Warrane (Sydney) based artist, who lives and works in Australia. They studied at the School of Art, Australian National University, Canberra. Selected exhibitions include: Horror Is Nothing Other Than Reality, Verge Gallery and Walls Of Skin, Dark MOFO x Constance ARI (2023); This Is Not Goodbye, Gaffa Gallery (2022); Lockdown Showdown, Gaffa Gallery (2021); Transitional Objects, Our Neon Foe (2020) and Performance at The Cube, Oxford Art Factory (2018). Rat is a finalist and highly commended in the 2022 Sulman Prize.
