About the artist
Anjolie Ela Menon was born in Burnpur, West Bengal in 1940. She studied Literature at New Delhi and later on a scholarship at Atelier Fresque, Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Art, Paris. She paints everyday objects like chairs, images of crow and semi hidden figures to depict emotions, moods and personal links. Anjolie Ela Menon is best known for religion themed works, portraits and variety of styles ranging from cubism to techniques that recalled the artist of the European Renaissance. She is a colourist, use bright, intense colour palette and gradations of tone and texture very effectively in her works. Her preferred medium is oil on masonite, though also worked in different media including glass & water colour. Anjolie Ela Menon was awarded Padma Shree by the Indian Government in 2000 and held many shows in India and abroad.
