Sumanto Chowdhury

Sumanto Chowdhury was born in 1979 in West Bengal. Chowdhury received his Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts painting from Kala Bhavana Visva Bharati, Santiniketan and Master of Fine Arts Graphic from S.N.School Hyderabad. The artist works with various mediums, and has used different architectural designs and print making also. Sumanto Chowdhury’s canvases are the mirror of rural, urban and suburban landscapes. Colors are very symbolic in Sumanto’s paintings, pink, blue, red, yellow, and emerald green. Chowdhury portrays people and the city through paintings, etchings, fiberglass sculptures and three-dimensional works that combine paintings and etchings. His interest in Indian miniature paintings has a great significance in his works and details of every image both for the interior and exterior shows the narrative tendency of the artist. The unique part of his landscapes is the absence of images of human beings, though one can feel their presence The viewer is thrilled with the wide-angle view of the landscape and the endless sky, nature and habitation come simultaneously in his paintings. He has participated in several group and solo shows He has received emerging artists award; -Prafulla Art Foundation award -2015, from Mumbai.
