Samir Mohanty

India

Samir Mohanty was born (1989) in Jajpur, Odisha. The artist did his MFA in painting from Hyderabad Central University (2012) and BFA in painting from Utkal University of Culture, Bhubaneswar (2009). His work is about reminiscing the past, living in absence and to preserve time. He brings forth a juxtaposition of the past with the present, thus prompting existential questioning and self-dialogues within the viewer. Material plays a vital role in the execution of his works. Samir collects natural objects like twigs, barks, and thorns and employ them in his visual language. According to him their organic nature holds an emotional connect with all living beings and also reinstates his belief that whatever humans need, it is provided by Mother Nature. He is a part of many group shows and has been a two- time recipient of the prestigious Elizabeth Green shields Foundation Canada Grant in 2008 and 2010.
