About the artist:

Laxman Aelay, before gaining recognition as a professional artist, was a  commerce graduate, a signboard painter, designer and illustrator of books. These works were well-received in Telugu literary circles. His first noteworthy art show was in ICCR Art Gallery in Hyderabad. Regardless of the medium he chooses for his works – paper, oil, canvas or whatever – each subtle nuance in his work reflects human figures and forms that have caught his fancy. His works depict the rural people he grew up with against brightly painted backgrounds such as red, green and yellow. He draws heavily on the lives of common people of his village Kadirenigudem. Although most artists speak universalistic language, Laxman seems to be proud of his roots. Aelay says, “On my tours abroad, the nativity I brought out in my works interested the audiences so much that their interest in Indian and rustic flavors grew enormously…. Pure human form inspires me the most.”

Recently, Aelay switched over to realistic paintings using vivid colours to depict flowers, jewelry and traditional clothings.

Aelay was born (1965) in Kadirenigudem, Nalgonda district in Telegana. He studied BFA (Painting) at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University’s College of Fine Arts in Hyderabad. Aelay has widely exhibited in India and abroad. He is also known for creating the Telangana state logo.

Aelay lives and works in Hyderabad.
