About the artist:

An acclaimed artist based out of Hyderabad, Laxman Aelay is known for his nostalgic paintings that depict the people that he grew up amongst with, in his ancestral village of Kadirenigudem in Telangana. The poverty-stricken lives of the villagers are his constant inspiration, which he translates into bold figurative art. His most recognizable works are his black and white compositions, against brightly painted backgrounds such as red, green and yellow. The paintings were animated by tall dark men in their traditional attire, mostly shepherds, women clad in sarees, with the traditional red dot prominent on their foreheads, engaged in their daily chores, caught in the midst of a mundane conversation in the by lanes, chit chatting on their way to markets, with satchels swinging in hand. Recently, Aelay switched over from using white, black and shades of gray, which he preferred in his paintings, to using vivid colours to depict flowers, jewelry and traditional clothings.
