Born in 1940, Surya Prakash studied painting in Hyderabad. He captures the heavenliness of native landscapes in various hues focusing on the landscapes and forestscapes sensitively and consistently. Every work appears to record different shades of the beauty of nature that lies around him as an act of homage and an expression of gratitude. There exists luminosity and an enchantment that seduces the viewer. The translucence of colours and an exuberance of forms treated with an almost microscopic clarity are the distinctive features of his work. Surya’s semi-realistic representation of flowers and foliage, are like the impressionist’s works, marked by layered colours and carefully rendered textures. Surya Prakash is a truly multifaceted artist, constantly learning from other painters and evolving his style and expanding his oeuvre as he experiments with new forms, colours and motifs. In media and surface as well, Surya continually experiments and furthers his reach, most recently trying his hand at etching. Winner of many awards he has held many solo and group exhibitions within India and abroad. Surya Prakash passed away in May 2019.
