Jyoti Singh was born in 1957. Jyoti started her training as a potter in the 90s at Delhi Blue pottery with Dipalee Daroz. She has worked with local terra cotta clay from Haryana and Kashmir. Thereafter Jyoti has been exploring and discovering the magic of metals since 2006. She likes to work with copper, creating texture and form before the application of colour and multiple firings. Her work is varied, from the more painterly format on steel to the sculptural totemic form and wall pendants. Enamel is a medium dear to her heart, a medium that invites touch, is able to withstand outdoor weather conditions is suited to public art and installations. Jyoti is inspired by the places she has visited: the American Southwest and indigenous jewelry and art, Ladakh and the vast spaces and palpable sacredness in that region. Most recently she has been inspired by the caves at Ajanta and Ellora and hopes to express the impact of this superb man-made heritage in her upcoming work.
